Orifice by-pass flowmeters

Some principles
Differential pressure flowmeters are devices consisting of one orifice, one nozzle or one Venturi tube, connected by means of its pressure taps to a variable area flowmeter equipped with a calibrated secondary orifice, in order to produce between the taps one by-pass partial flow of fluid which is proportional to the whole amount that flows in the main pipe. In standard orifice (or nozzle) flowmeters the measuring device is usually a pressure gauge, where no flow is present (static measurement), but only a rising or lowering of the pressure value. On the contrary in the differential pressure flowmeters (dynamic measurement) there is a continuous fluid movement between the upstream and the downstream pressure taps through the variable area flowmeter. The rising or lowering of the float gives information about the amount of liquid or gas flowing through the main pipe.
